Brazil Carnaval = ‘Mulata Bunda’ (for Arnold!)
March 6th, 2009 by insighter
A Brazilian friend sent me this old video and I was shocked and embarrassed. Why? Because of the messages in Arnold’s video:
- Misogyny
- Objectification of the “Mulata”
- Ignorance
- Lack of interest in other languages
The sad part about this video is that too many people think like him. The human mind sometimes is self-limiting.
1. Misogyny & exploitation written all over this video!
Quote: “Brazil has the most beautiful women” “Carnaval is the biggest party in the world”
Translation: I can see semi-nude women anywhere here! It is an awesome meat market!
Result: Supply & Demand for the prostitution market.
My response: Arnold, don’t bring these countries your emotional and physical diseases. There should be laws against that now-a-days!
2. Objectification of the ‘mulata’ - the black or mixed woman.
My Response: Please keep your hands to yourself Arnold! Just because “mulatas” are often portraited as bunda shaking objects and you don’t care to understand the culture doesn’t give you the freedom to touch them or have less respect for them. Mañoso!
Note: Some women actually feel a bit of envy of this kind of attention that makes “mulatas” popular in the least of positive ways. Don’t forget who is advertising and what it makes a brainless man, like Arnold, do as a result: disrespect the Mulatas. I wonder if Arnold knows what “mulatas” means.
3. Ignorance about other cultures and unwilling to learn or take it slightly seriously.
Analysis: Interpreting a culture that is not yours can be a very difficult task. Most people judge other cultures against their own as if they should be the same or function under the same perspectives of the world. My question is: Why do we want everyone to fit our mold? What makes us so godly?
4. Lack of interest in other languages:
Quote: “The more I was in Rio the more I wanted to learn the Portuguese language…It reminds me of Italian language.”
Translation: All those languages that don’t sound like Italian, you’re SOL.
Analysis: Arnold didn’t intend to learn Portuguese before arriving in Brazil. Unlike more humble people who don’t learn a language because they lack resources to take language lessons, Arnold:
- a). believes English is superior anyway and the civilized Brazilian should know how to speak it. Doesn’t everyone in the world speak English?
- b). has gained interest in the language so that he can talk to women so he can harass them in their own language. He found the perfect word to impress and woo the Brazilian women: “bunda” (butt).
As you can tell I’m writing with a bit of sarcasm but I do wonder why is Arnold allowed to teach English?…Hope he doesn’t stay around California for long.
