The Recent History of the Hmong
There’s no logic or reason in my mind for that. How can a person not be affected by such images? How can someone do any of it and not feel something terribly wrong with themselves? This is what wars do to men - and I say “Men” specifically. Abuses to women on any side of war are “SOP” (Standard Operating Procedure) but then again what atrocity isn’t a SOP in war zones? Why are we not smart enough to know that savagery is the only thing that can be expected from a place where life is not to be respected. Wars will never be honorable. In the same way, patriotism becomes dishonorable because of all the things that people feel free to do to others in wars.
For the Hmong people, continuing the fight is the way to surviving genocide. When does it stop? I feel tired and frustrated for them. My heart goes out to the Hmong people.
